Celebrate Memorial Day on Hilton Head Island

Memorial Day, formerly called Decoration Day, was established in May 1868 to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Civil War. After World War I the holiday was expanded to include the remembrance of all Americans who have so selflessly sacrificed their lives for our country. By 1971 Memorial Day was recognized as an official federal holiday. While many believe the real reason for this holiday is obscured by the concerts, barbecues, and celebrations that most Americans participate in, we think the time away from work spent with friends and family is a great way to honor those who have laid down their lives for our freedoms. The brave men and women in our nation’s history fought for our unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. With reverence to those individuals and their families, we choose to live life to the fullest, especially during Memorial Day Weekend.

Hilton Head Island is the perfect place to celebrate our nation's freedom with those who matter most.
