THE ISLAND PACKET

Get your Sharpies ready. You’re about to be able to cross “perform triple lutz on an island and in view of palm trees” off your bucket list.

An outdoor ice-skating rink will open Nov. 18 at Shelter Cove Towne Centre on Hilton Head Island. That’s 10 days from now, which is plenty of time to Google “I forgot how to ice skate, remind me.”

Skating on synthetic ice, which this rink will have by the way, is similar to skating on refrigerated ice, I hear. It just requires a little more effort because of the resistance, and your skates need to be sharp.

As for falling, it supposedly doesn’t hurt when you do, but let’s hope it’s just as hilarious to watch — assuming you’re OK, of course.

Remember, it’s OK to laugh at the flailing, not the ailing.

The rink will be in the park at Shelter Cove and will be open to all ages and experience levels through Jan. 1.

“Our goal with the ice rink is to create a gathering place for the community. A place where families and friends can make memories and spend time together in an active and fun environment,” said Tony Burris, president of Problem Solvers, the company building the rink.

I wonder if our Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat feeds can handle all these made memories. Something tells me it’s going to get hecka skate-snappy on Hilton Head this winter.

Admission for a 90-minute session will be $10 or $6 for kids younger than 6. The price of admission includes skate rental, though skaters may also bring their own.

The rink will be open seven days a week, including holidays. The hours are 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 2 to 3:30 p.m., 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A teens-only session is available for ages 13-18 for $12 from 9 to 10:30 p.m. on Fridays.
