The Hilton Head Island Oyster Festival continued on Saturday at Shelter Cove Community Park.

Highlights included steamed, fried and stewed oysters as well as a variety of other fare.

Musical entertainment included performances by several bands. There was also a kids zone, local Artisan Pop Up Shops, marshmallow roasting and a sports lounge where festival goers could quaff a brew while keeping up with their favorite football teams.

Small homes a big hit at Tiny House Show

The inaugural Tiny House Show was held on Saturday on Hilton Head Island. The two-day event, which was rescheduled for this weekend after being postponed by Hurricane Irma in early September, is being presented by New South Living at Shelter Cove Community Park.

New South Living, Driftwood Homes USA, a tiny-house company in Bluffton, and other builders showed off a dozen tiny homes a housing style that is one of the hottest trends in the home market today.

The second annual VegFest, set for Saturday on Hilton Head Island, aims to educate attendees about a vegan lifestyle and diet, according to a news release from Palmetto Plant Eaters.

The festival runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Shelter Cove Community Park.

Hundreds of people are expected to participate from around the Lowcountry, and the first 300 attendees will receive a free swag bag, according to the festival’s schedule.

Latin music, culture and food celebrated on Sunday at Latin Music Festival

The 2017 edition of the Latin Music Festival, a fiesta marking Latino Heritage Month with music, dance and food, was held Sunday at Hilton Head Island’s Shelter Cove Community Park.

Headlining the festival was La Sonora Dinamita, a Colombian musical group that plays cumbia, a South and Latin American music genre popular throughout that region.

The festival also featured Latino musicians from around the area, including the La Isla House Band. In addition, there were folkloric dance groups.

The Latin Music Festival will be held Sunday at Shelter Cove Community Park on Hilton Head Island, organizers announced in a news release.

The festival, now in its sixth year, will run from noon to 9 p.m. It is a celebration marking Latino Heritage Month through music, dance and food.

This year’s music headliner is La Sonora Dinamita, a Colombian musical group that plays cumbia, a South and Latin American music genre popular throughout that region. The news release says La Sonora Dinamita is one of the first cumbia groups to achieve international success and helped popularize the genre around the world.

Saturday was the best of times for carnivores of all stripes at Shelter Cove Community Park as the Burgers, Bacon & Barbecue festival made its inaugural appearance on the Hilton Head Island event schedule on a sultry early fall day.

The event combined the best of two prior festivals: Burgers & Brew, and Beer, Bacon and Music — to make an even bigger festival.

It featured a number of the Lowcountry’s top chefs and restaurants serving up their best dishes, including a number of bacon-themed dishes and even a bacon dessert item, the peanut butter and banana with bacon cupcake offered by Eva Monzon at her Toves booth.

When: Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.

Towne Centre Drive will be lined with classic cars from the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival’s Car Club Showcase. The cars will be decorated and filled with candy. Shops at the centre will also be participating in the trick-or-treating.

The event will also feature Cappy the Clown, glitter tattoos and a bounce house.

The Kiwanis Clubs of Hilton Head Island will host the 33rd annual Chili Cookoff from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at Shelter Cove Community Park.

The event will be held rain or shine and will feature all-you-can-eat chili.

This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur categories with separate awards for each. In addition, Cranford Hollow will perform, and there will be a Kid’s Zone with children’s games and activities, including face painting.

The much meatier new time and date for the Italian Heritage Festival

`The Hilton Head Island Italian Heritage Festival has been postponed and re-scheduled for November.

According to a festival news release, the new date for the Italian-American Club of Hilton Head Island’s festival will be Nov. 18, and it will move from the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn to Shelter Cove Community Park.

The new date means the festival now combines with the club’s “Meatball Madness” event, an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for largest meatball.

Hours after the evacuation order for Hilton Head Island was lifted, business owners in Shelter Cove Towne Center were already taking down storm shutters and working to get their stores and restaurants up and running.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, Wayback Burger was already open and serving customers.

Managers at Poseidon, a restaurant that is a part of the SERG restaurant group, said that by Wednesday the restaurant would be open with regular hours and operations.

Other SERG group restaurants, including the Shrimp Shack attached to Marley’s, Frankie Bones and the Black Marlin Hurricane Bar, were all opening at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Spartina 449 is planning the opening of its first Hilton Head Island store later this month, company officials said Tuesday.
