Summer is about halfway over for kids in the Lowcountry, which means it’s time to hit that bucket list hard and make Summer 2016 one for the books. Here’s 11 hings to do with your kids (not including the beach)on Head Island before summer ends too soon.

Take your kids on a wild adventure this summer at the Coastal Discovery Museum’s Lowcountry Critters Meet and Greets, where you can get an up-close, but safe, view of alligators, snakes, and other crawling critters of the Lowcountry.
When: 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through August.

Catch a movie under the stars.
Dive-In Movies at the Island Rec Center pool
Yes, you can swim while you watch your family’s favorite flick (all of the best things in summer wrapped up in one night). Movies start at dusk.

Bike the island.
Whether you want to bike the beach or around the island Hilton Head has more than 60 miles of safe pathways for you to explore.
See fireworks at Harbourfest.
If you missed fireworks on the Fourth of July, have no fear, you can catch big blasts in the summer sky every Tuesday at Shelter Cove. The fireworks will light up the sky above Broad Creek around 9:30 p.m. so you can see it from Shelter Cove Community Park and Shelter Cove Harbour. Enjoy live music, vendors and more throughout Shelter Cove every Tuesday night through Aug. 23.

Cool off with some ice cream.
There is nothing ice cream can't fix, right? It's certainly something there is plenty of on Hilton Head Island. Check out all the spots to cool off with your favorite frozen treat here.
Explore a nature preserve.
If you and your kids like to get acquainted with nature on your own time, take a stroll through the Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge, located right off the island between Hilton Head and Bluffton. You’ll discover more than 4,000 acres of vibrant, untamed Lowcountry wildlife with unique birds, alligators, butterflies, and more.
If you’re around the south end of Hilton Head, check out the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Take the kids for an adventure walk above the rice field boardwalk where you’ll see all sorts of swampland critters from a lifted path. Be sure to visit the 4,00 year old Indian Shell Ring.
Go on a dolphin cruise.
From the May River to the Salt Marsh to the deep blue Atlantic sea, the waters surrounding Hilton Head inhabit some of the sea’s most fascinating creatures, and they're best seen by boat.
There are several options for dolphin tours on the island you can pick from here.
Play a round of putt-putt.
Hilton Head is one of the nation’s top destinations for golf, so naturally we have a strong mini golf game here. Here's three locations to choose from:

Catch a world-class sunset.
Summertime is the best time to catch a sunset and there is no better place then Hilton Head to watch the sun go down. Pack a picnic and head to one of the best spots on the island and enjoy the finer, simple things in life: family, summer weather, and fantastic views.
Climb the Harbour Town Lighthouse.
Adventure awaits at the top of the Lighthouse where you can get a fabulous 360-degree view of the island. On the way up, learn the history of the island in the museum that surrounds the stairs.
